Design Views: WertelOberfell
Exhibition at Kunstgewerbemuseum

Details

Good product design involves a great deal of work and requires plenty of experience and skills. The Design Intent experiences an evolutionary development and needs sufficient time to mature. This not necessarily linear process requires extensive analysis and ultimately also good feeling to make the right decisions at the right time.

WertelOberfell will be working on some experimental designs on site at KGM, and provide insights into their work processes. The focus will be on iterative artwork using 3D printers and CAD programs. In this way, visitors can observe how a design evolves from the first idea – the Design Intent – into its final version.

Opening:

November 28, 4:30pm
Talk and guided tour with the designers, participation with valid museum ticket for free.

Industry meets IT: User friendliness - usability in industrial production

Details

With increasing digitalization, the demands on the way users interact with technical devices are increasing. If a user feels overwhelmed by complexity, or if a machine requires illogical action, this is a serious market disadvantage.

Industry representatives will learn why user-friendliness is a decisive success factor and how practical implementation can succeed by means of three practical examples for improved usability in production. UX experts and company representatives will present principles and best practices for user-friendly design.

Manuel Friedrich, Cluster Manager ICT, Media and Creative Industries, Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie GmbH and Ake Rudolf, Strategic Director, International Design Centre Berlin

Case Studies
Principles, methods and benefits of User Experience & User Interface Design for Industry 4.0 (Kai Gehrmann, Managing Director and Dipl.-Designer, attoma Berlin GmbH)

Mastering complexity: An application for data preparation in additive manufacturing (Ariane Jäger, Senior UX Consultant, UseTree GmbH)

What Design Can Do

Vitra Design Museum
Anton Lorenz. From avant-garde to industry

Details

For the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, the Vitra Design Museum is dedicating an exhibition to the entrepreneur and designer Anton Lorenz for the first time. Lorenz is regarded as a key figure in the development of modern tubular steel furniture. Like hardly any other material, tubular steel embodied the ideals of the Bauhaus avant-garde, such as the quest for a "machine aesthetic" and the search for radically new constructions, as expressed in the famous cantilever chair. The designer owes his importance not only to his furniture designs, but also to his success with patents and company foundations. The exhibition in the show depot includes furniture by legendary designers such as Marcel Breuer, Mart Stam and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, as well as objects and documents from the estate of Anton Lorenz, who belongs to the collection of the Vitra Design Museum.
