UX Design Awards Deep Dive: Award Winners
On June 15, Leopold Hoepner and Antoine Nivet of why do birds will guide us through the #UXDA22 product award winning project "MusiCurve".
MusiCurve is an easy-to-use software tool that allows users to change the intensity of a piece of music and adapt it to the dramaturgy of a film. The target audience is marketing, HR, social media managers and designers in companies with little or no knowledge of music software and teams that don't have the budget to hire a sound studio to score a film production.
UXDA jury member Tapani Jokinen on the project: "The concept of MusiCurve is brilliantly simple and easy to use. It requires no expertise and allows anyone to create a video with a perfectly matching sound in a self-explanatory way. The solution meets the needs of the target audience and significantly reduces the effort required for an elaborate and complex process."
Deep Dive: Award Winners presents outstanding projects from the professional award categories of Product and Concept. The format - live interactive presentations followed by a Q&A session - offers behind-the-scenes insights into award-winning projects and enables exchange with successful experience design teams.

Special exhibition "Otl Aicher. Olympia 72" at the Bröhan Museum
From August 26 to October 30, the Bröhan Museum is showing the special exhibition "Otl Aicher. Olympia 72".
Otl Aicher, one of the most important graphic designers of the 20th century, would have turned 100 in 2022. One of his most spectacular projects 50 years ago was the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. Otl Aicher and his team developed a complete visual identity under the slogan "the cheerful games" for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, which still sets standards today and has actually remained unrivaled.
The native of Ulm developed signs that everyone knows: stick figures symbolizing the various sports, a telephone receiver symbol, a coffee cup indicating gastronomy - a graphic guidance system. The exhibition presents posters, bulletins and program booklets. Other exhibits, such as the legendary Olympia-Waldi, as well as signs, training suits, hostess dirndls and souvenirs, allow visitors to immerse themselves in the world of the 1972 Munich Olympics. The show is complemented by photographs documenting the construction of the Olympic Park and thus also outlining the creative departure in architecture. For more information on the exhibition, visit here.
We are especially pleased that Dr. Tobias Hoffmann, the director of the Broehan Museum and curator of the exhibition, will participate as a panelist in our event "wir haben brot, wir haben spiele" (we have bread, we have games) at the Akademie der Künste on the evening of August 26. otl aicher 100: “we have bread, we have games”
Olympia as Politics, Olympia as Utopia, Olympia as Big Business - on the 50th Anniversary of the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics
This day marks the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Summer Olympics in Munich. The Olympic Stadium was designed by Günter Behnisch and Frei Otto and became an architectural icon. The friendly colors in Otl Aicher's design, however, have shaped these games as a whole and since then, also our collective memory of the sporting event. The first Summer Games since 1936 in Germany were also a political issue - in this context, the event participants will discuss with each other.
Welcome:
Prof. Fritz Frenkler, Director of the Baukunst Section of the Academy of Arts and Prof. Karsten Henze, Chairman of the Board of the IDZ.
Lecture:
Karsten de Riese, officially commissioned photographer of the organizing committee of the 1972 Olympic Games, shows photos from the preparation period and talks about the utopia and vision as a counter-design to the 1936 Games, which were appropriated by the National Socialists. As an official photographer, he was an attentive observer behind the scenes and accompanied the Games and their protagonists, including Otl Aicher, Willi Daume as well as the officials of the IOC and its president Avery Brundage.
Panel discussion with:
Dr. Benjamin Bendrich, sports scientist and teacher,
Blogger: derballluegtnicht.com
Dajana Eitberger, luge athlete, winner of the Olympic silver medal in Pyeongchang 2018.

UX Design Awards Talent Track: Award Winners
In her presentation Mengxue Zhou walks us through her award winning project “Potential Newsfeed”.
“Potential Newsfeed” explores how invisible algorithms on social media affect our consciousness about information consumption. Through speculative design, three concepts showcase different dimensions of transparency and control how we can intervene with the digital system. The focus lies in using design artifacts and storytelling to provoke discussion on how the public, society, technology, and market could potentially engage in adjusting the direction towards a future platform.
UXDA Jury member Peter Post about the project:
“Potential Newsfeed” is a well-executed piece of speculative design, addressing the issues of trust and mental health on Facebook. It shows the potential of a power shift from the platform to people. But it also challenges users: would we be willing to pay for more control? Would it be OK if only the affluent could afford to block targeting? Do we really want to know how our friends, their interests and attitudes influence our news feed?
