Paula Scher – Type is Image
The exhibition is dedicated to the work of Paula Scher, one of the most influential and successful graphic artists of her generation.

Details

With Type is Image, Die Neue Sammlung continues its tradition of inviting important contemporary designers to a site-specific installation. Paula Scher, who has been shaping graphic design with her innovative creativity for over five decades, has accepted this invitation with a walk-in exhibition of her work.

Until September 2024, the exhibition shows commissioned works from Scher's beginnings to the present day: from the appearance of the Public Theater in New York to the campaign for Rockaway Beach after the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 to her room and façade designs.

From the floor to the walls to the hanging letters and posters, the exhibition Type is Image offers visitors the opportunity to be surrounded by Paula Scher's work. Even the display cases are supported by letters. From every angle, new perspectives and interesting interplays of different works emerge.

Designing in an Evolving AI Landscape
In our next IDZ Member Circle/ Experience Design, we look forward to inspiring insight talks and networking, exclusively for IDZ company members and UX Design Awards judges.

Details

Together with IDZ member Experience One, we will host an inspiring evening:

As in our last event in January, we will again create an informal space for the mutual exchange of knowledge between jury members of the UX Design Awards, and representatives of IDZ member companies and agencies.

This time we will invite several speakers to take us through their current work and diverse perspectives on designing in an evolving AI landscape.

Program overview:

AI Case Studies

UX Designers Focus on People – AI Won't Change That.
Sandra Brügmann, Head of Digital Experience at Intuity Media Lab Hamburg
Bernhard Staiber, Head of Digital Experience Design at Intuity Media Lab Stuttgart
With over five years of AI design experience, Sandra and Bernhard find the current commotion puzzling, as new technologies have always influenced our world. They question if this is a reason to abandon established UX principles. Nonetheless, Sandra and Bernhard remain eager to explore how AI will shape emerging products and services, confident that progress will be made on all fronts.

What GPTs Can Do For You – a Make Happen Session
Ravi Popat, Strategic Designer at Manyone
Ravi will speak about the potential of Generative Pre-trained Transformers, or GPTs, as a design tool and share a demo of an experimental prototype he has been working on recently for design research phases.

Charting the Course for Better UX in GenAI Products
Michelle Castañeda, Principal Service Designer at Deutsche Telekom
As AI transforms product design, Michelle will share some key learnings about how design can help to drive great customer experience within the new paradigms of GenAI technologies.

People and Processes

How to Design Increasingly Mature AI Solutions
Luise Hübbe, Managing Director and Chief Strategy Officer at Experience One
Holger Grünwald, Managing Director, Design at Experience One
AI solutions are maturing rapidly, necessitating companies to classify these solutions accurately and develop strategic plans to leverage their advancements. The evolving demands on interface design, driven by generative AI, will challenge today's designers to step out of their comfort zones. And as familiar methods become obsolete, user experiences will become more personal, spontaneous, and comprehensive.

UX in the Era of Symbiotic Intelligence
Gowri Sunil Mohan, UX Researcher at VW Group Future Center Europe
Nico Pressler, Senior Exterior Designer at VW Group Future Center Europe
We explored how AI-driven augmentation could transform our creative and innovative work at the VW Future Center. Our speech will highlight our own gains and fails and touch upon the potential human evolution needed to thrive in these shifting times. #Bias #FutureSkills #DataDeficiency #Augmentation

Food for Thought: Design in the Era of AI
Sofia Ryan, Principal Design Director at Microsoft
AI is transforming the traditional approaches to both design thinking and design doing. Yet, there has never been a time in which creativity and empathy – qualities intrinsic to designers – have been more crucial. In her talk, Sofia will showcase examples of how AI can help us develop products that enhance human connections, embrace cultural diversity, and promote well-being. She will discuss the challenges inherent in this endeavor and emphasize why it is a challenge we must undertake.

The talks and discussions will be held in English.

Circular Experience Design
Workshop with IDZ member Peter Post.

Creating good customer experiences in the circular economy:

In the “Circular Experience Design” workshop, Peter Post introduces the basic principles of the circular economy and uses concrete examples and exercises to enable participants to design circular services themselves from a customer perspective using a service design sprint developed for this purpose. He explains UX design patterns that reduce development times and costs in practice. The Circular Experience Library he developed for this purpose was awarded the German Federal Ecodesign Prize.

Peter Post is a brand, service and UX designer with more than 25 years of
experience in agencies such as Scholz & Volkmer and initiator of the Circular-experience.org platform. On the board of the International Design Center Berlin, he promotes circular design.
