Paula Scher – Type is Image
The exhibition is dedicated to the work of Paula Scher, one of the most influential and successful graphic artists of her generation.
With Type is Image, Die Neue Sammlung continues its tradition of inviting important contemporary designers to a site-specific installation. Paula Scher, who has been shaping graphic design with her innovative creativity for over five decades, has accepted this invitation with a walk-in exhibition of her work.
Until September 2024, the exhibition shows commissioned works from Scher's beginnings to the present day: from the appearance of the Public Theater in New York to the campaign for Rockaway Beach after the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 to her room and façade designs.
From the floor to the walls to the hanging letters and posters, the exhibition Type is Image offers visitors the opportunity to be surrounded by Paula Scher's work. Even the display cases are supported by letters. From every angle, new perspectives and interesting interplays of different works emerge.

Circular Experience Design
Workshop with IDZ member Peter Post.
Creating good customer experiences in the circular economy:
End customers determine the success of circular business models. They are confronted with completely new challenges beyond consumption - from repair to refurbishment to resale. In the “Circular Experience Design” workshop, Peter Post introduces the basic principles of the circular economy and uses concrete examples and exercises to enable participants to design circular services themselves from a customer perspective using a service design sprint developed for this purpose. He explains UX design patterns that reduce development times and costs in practice. The Circular Experience Library he developed for this purpose was awarded the German Federal Ecodesign Prize.
Peter Post is a brand, service and UX designer with more than 25 years of
experience in agencies such as Scholz & Volkmer and initiator of the Circular-experience.org platform. On the board of the International Design Center Berlin, he promotes circular design. He is Ambassador of the UX Design Awards, co-founder of the Behavioral Design Camp and a regular keynote speaker. Bio-based plastics
Webinar with Dr. Stephan Kabasci
Material Alternatives for Various Applications:
Petroleum-based plastics have dramatically transformed the world of materials since the 1960s. They enable an immense variety of shapes and colors at low costs and weights. However, the plastic industry is already responsible for a significant portion of anthropogenic CO2 emissions, a share that is expected to grow in the coming decades. Bio-based plastics present a more climate-friendly alternative, allowing for the benefits of plastics without the associated environmental drawbacks. In this webinar, Stephan Kabasci will provide an overview of the current range of bio-based plastics and demonstrate how their use affects climate balances and other ecologically important parameters.
Dr.-Ing. Stephan Kabasci works in Strategic Project Development at the Fraunhofer-Institut für Umwelt-, Sicherheits- und Energietechnik UMSICHT.

Opportunities through the new Reporting Requirement (CSRD)
Check-in with Antje Meyer, Susainable Natives
What Opportunities Does the New Reporting Requirement (CSRD) Present for Designers?
Under the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), over 14,000 companies in Germany are required to make their sustainability efforts transparent and report on them. Sustainability is taking center stage for many companies — ranging from recognition, to reporting, to implementation. Consequently, more and more smaller businesses will also need to report on their positions regarding ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) issues.
How can designers support their corporate clients in this process? The check-in will cover the fundamentals of the new EU regulations and explore the opportunities that arise from these new requirements.
Antje Meyer is a networker, strategist, and coach specializing in sustainability, leadership, and communication. With over 30 years as an entrepreneur, she is the co-founder and supervisory board chair of sustainable natives eG, a cross-disciplinary consultancy for transformation, and the innovation agency nextblooming gmbh in Berlin. Actively engaged in the Berlin business community, she has been the chair of the IHK Committee on Sustainable Metropolis since 2022 and teaches Corporate Communication and Leadership Excellence at FHGR, Graubünden.
The series "Zukunftsfähig durch nachhaltige Gestaltung – Ecodesign in Theorie und Praxis" impressed the jury of the Berlin Innovation Challenge 2024. IDZ Berlin expresses its gratitude for the award and thanks the Senate Department for Economics, Energy, and Public Enterprises for their support.
Registration is available via Eventbrite.
