Our Member of the Month for July/August 2022 is the product designer Tobias Trübenbacher. Since completing his studies (industrial design in Munich and product design at the Berlin University of the Arts), he has worked at Konstantin Grcic Design in Berlin. He also develops his own projects that use visionary technology to find sustainable solutions to current social and environmental challenges.
Tobias’ street lantern PAPILIO impressed us so much at last year’s German Design Graduates that we chose him for our support. PAPILIO generates energy with an integrated wind rotor and only turns on when needed - significantly reducing the environmental footprint of street lighting. At the same time, it counteracts the dramatic increase in light pollution worldwide.
Beyond designing products, Tobias is also concerned about the “big picture”. It is time, he says, to take a step back to also fundamentally rethink entrenched processes and systems and develop innovative ideas for them in interdisciplinary exchange.
