AI in Dialogue
Following the great success of last year, IDZ and AMDX are once again hosting a joint workshop talk as part of Berlin Science Week.
In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, we invite you to a dialogue about the societal and creative impact of this technology. Our aim is to bridge design and science in conversation, diverging from the usual discourse about AI's creative capabilities or concerns about job security. Instead, we want to explore new, forward-thinking approaches.
Together with the audience, we will delve into how we can improve our collaboration and coexistence with AI. We will explore the potential that AI offers for both design and society. Additionally, we will discuss how AI could either promote or threaten peaceful and democratic coexistence. This is not just a matter for politics and science; it concerns all of us!
As designers of this world, can we ensure that AI becomes more diverse, fair, and sustainable—and in doing so, benefits society optimally?
Examples from the healthcare sector already show that AI outperforms humans in many areas. But can this development extend to areas less reliant on facts and more on emotions, community, or aesthetics?
These and other questions will be discussed in an interactive "fishbowl" format:
• How can we develop ethical guidelines and normative principles that govern AI use in a social context?
• What role does design play in shaping AI systems that are inclusive and sustainable?
• How can we ensure that AI enhances not only economic efficiency but also social justice and sustainable development?
• What examples from the creative industries highlight successful collaborations between humans and AI?
Design shapes the world. AI is now shaping it too. Our goal is nothing less than to influence the future of our collaboration with artificial intelligence. Together, we will explore how AI can contribute to a better future, not just technologically but also culturally and socially.

wirDesign: Responsibility is the reason why | Responsability and Brand Performance
IDZ Berlin is inviting jointly with member wirDesign. Birgida Kempf and Silke Parnack from the wirDesign Executive Board will show how their agency works.
Brigida Kempf and Silke Parnack, board members at wirDesign, show how their brand agency works successfully. The agency places responsibility at the heart of its actions, acts in accordance with ESG criteria, and is currently working on its common good balance sheet. It’s not just about being “good” or “sustainable” but constantly improving and taking responsibility—for the employees, the company, and the world—while achieving economic success.
Most of our members have this aspiration, so we are already looking forward to this impetus from the wirDesign cosmos and the subsequent collegial exchange over snacks and drinks.
We kindly ask for a reservation. The event will be in German.
When? 25 April, 6:30 pm (doors open 6 pm)
Where? wirDesign, Berliner Straße 82, 13189 Berlin

Motion & Sound - Design & Branding and why these disciplines are becoming increasingly important in brand communication ...
Alexander Wodrich, Managing Director of the agency why do birds, invites you to the IDZ member event on March 21.
He will provide insights into the world of motion design and motion branding and explain why these disciplines are becoming increasingly important for brand communication. How do brands manage to present themselves "on-brand" in the fast-moving social media jungle and what tools are there to ensure a consistent presence?
As moving images rarely manage without sound, the interface to sound (branding) will also be discussed. You can look forward to excellent audio examples. Please register now!

Designing Beyond Crises
Together with our member Archimedes Exhibitions, we invite you to a panel discussion at the AMDX Workshop. The event takes place in the context of the Berlin Science Week. We’re looking forward to a lively debate with our panelists and the audience.
What do we mean by a future worth living, and how can we shape it? How do we remain innovative and find practicable approaches to solutions? Can creativity act as a catalyst? What are art and design's ecological, political, and social effects? How do we inform about crises, how does enlightenment work, and what questions should we ask? Do we need new and radical motifs, approaches, or images for a change in consciousness?
Panelists:
- Nancy Birkhölzer, designer and sustainability expert.
- Prof. Dr. Felix Kosok, graphic designer and design scientist
- Mara Recklies, philosopher specializing in design theory and criticism

DESIGN INSIGHTS #2 The Process of Halle (Der Halle-Prozess)
IDZ and feldfünf invite you: Lecture evening with Prof. Matthias Görlich, Maja Redlin and Nils Krüger
“We will never be normal again as long as we avoid talking about what happened and why it happened.” (Reem A.)
On 19 June, we continue our DESIGN INSIGHTS series with the presentation of the publication project “Der Halle-Prozess”, which deals with the right-wing terrorist attack in Halle. Guests are Prof. Matthias Görlich, Maja Redlin and Nils Krüger from the study group Information Design (SI) of Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle: https://truth.design/.
When?
19 June 2023 at 6:00 p.m. (admission starting at 5:30 p.m.).
Where?
feldfünf, Fromet-und-Moses-Mendelssohn-Platz 7-8, 10969 Berlin, Germany.
Programme:
Prof. Matthias Görlich will first introduce the study group and its working methods. In the group's projects, most notably in the two publications on the “Halle-Prozess”, the potential of communication design in conveying socio-politically relevant issues becomes clear.
On 9 October 2019, the highest Jewish holiday Yom Kippur, a right-wing extremist terrorist first attacks the synagogue in Halle, then the nearby Kiez-Döner. He murders two people and tears many more in Halle and Wiedersdorf (Saxony-Anhalt) from their familiar lives forever. The two-part publication project documents the court case in detail and opens up backgrounds and perspectives to an interested, civil society audience. Nils Krüger and Maja Redlin will present both volumes and provide insights into the genesis, design and implementation of the project. Afterwards, there will be space for questions and discussion.
For the get-together, OBC kindly provides us with Original Berliner Cidre.
The publications „Der Halle-Prozess. Mitschriften“ and „Der Halle-Prozess: Hintergründe und Perspektiven“ are published by Spector Books in Leipzig in 2022.
The event will be held in German, admission is free. Since the number of seats is limited, we ask for binding registration.
