The ›Universal Design quality label‹ is a unique form of product labelling and the first to combine an assessment and distinguishing of technical and aesthetic characteristics alongside a consideration of product usability. It is awarded to products that meet the criteria of Universal Design, meaning that they are easy to handle, technically sound and designed to be used by people of all generations. For consumers, the label provides confidence that a product is well designed, intuitive and safe to use. For manufacturers in the consumer goods sector, a successful assessment can bring competitive advantages. These benefits are safeguarded on all sides thanks to the unique combination of the three assessment elements on which the label is based.
The following are evaluated:
- quality according to the criteria of Universal Design
- usability, by test persons
- technical reliability, by the independent testing institution TÜV NORD CERT
The quality label has been developed in cooperation with Rat für Formgebung and TÜV NORD CERT, funded by the Federal Ministry of Economy.
