Design Views: Elisa Strozyk
Exhibition at Kunstgewerbemuseum
»Wooden Textiles« is an experimental project by Elisa Strozyk, in which the designer researched ways to provide wood with textile properties. The results are fascinating: her creation – a material that is half wood-half textile – is hard and yet flexible, allowing it to be formed into flat 2-dimensional objects just as well as into extensive 3-dimensional installations. The materials textile and sculptural characteristics shape the captivating feel and structure of the objects and challenge us to engage with them, play with them and come up with an infinite number of possibilities to form and change their appearance.
Elisa Strozyks design principles are based on the »Emotional Durable Design«-theory which seeks to reinforce the relation between the object and the subject. Therefore, a product is taken out of its natural habitat and placed into a new context, where the emphasize lies on the emotional value of the product rather than its function. Furthermore, it is the designer’s ambition to create products with a long life expectancy – products that are made out of a material that allows its creations to age »gracefully«.

Design Views: Philipp Weber
Exhibition at Kunstgewerbemuseum
Philipp Weber’s work is coined by a very unique approach towards materials and traditional crafting techniques. In »A Strange Symphony« the designer focuses and analyses the process of manufacturing glass. Particularly inspired was Weber by the rhythm of the glassmaker and the almost musical interaction with the viscous material. His glassmaker trumpet is based on the blowpipe – the main tool of manufacturing glass – which is here transformed from a crafting into a musical instrument. In »From Below« the designer deconstructs the industrial process of producing coke and gives it a new meaning by approaching the material from a more technical perspective.
Philipp Weber graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven and Berlin University of the Arts. His work has received numerous prizes and has been exhibited internationally.»A Strange Symphony« was also included into the collection of the Shanghai Museum of Glass and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Lausanne.

Design Views: Ina Budde
Exhibition at Kunstgewerbemuseum
Ina Budde sets new standards in the rapidly changing fashion industry. The principles of circular economy run through her collection DfC X JNJ with impressive consistency – a feat that she was rewarded for with the Federal Ecodesign Award 2017.
The fashion designer’s dedication for recycling-optimizing design principles and a fair production opposes the linear industrial ways of economy that lead to a high consumption of raw materials and enormous amounts of waste. Transparency and traceability of the materials and production, as well as the expansion of return-services and the development of new utilization concepts and distribution channels are important cornerstones of Ina Budde’s work.
