Paula Scher – Type is Image
The exhibition is dedicated to the work of Paula Scher, one of the most influential and successful graphic artists of her generation.
With Type is Image, Die Neue Sammlung continues its tradition of inviting important contemporary designers to a site-specific installation. Paula Scher, who has been shaping graphic design with her innovative creativity for over five decades, has accepted this invitation with a walk-in exhibition of her work.
Until September 2024, the exhibition shows commissioned works from Scher's beginnings to the present day: from the appearance of the Public Theater in New York to the campaign for Rockaway Beach after the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 to her room and façade designs.
From the floor to the walls to the hanging letters and posters, the exhibition Type is Image offers visitors the opportunity to be surrounded by Paula Scher's work. Even the display cases are supported by letters. From every angle, new perspectives and interesting interplays of different works emerge.

The Corporate Identity of the GDR
Book presentation by Andreas Koop (Allgäu) | followed by a discussion with Wilfried Klink | Host: Thomas Flierl
An approach to the GDR via its self-portrayal. The design researcher Andreas Koop, who has previously described the visual appearance of National Socialism ("NSCI"), analyzes the visual identity of the GDR and reconstructs the manual of the workers' and peasants' state: from the coat of arms to the national colors, typeface/typography and print media to public staging.
The graphic designer Wilfried Klink, a student of Werner Klemke and Axel Bertram (Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee), long-time head of graphics at TRIALON and thus one of the most knowledgeable campaign designers from the East, advised Koop.

wirDesign: Responsibility is the reason why | Responsability and Brand Performance
IDZ Berlin is inviting jointly with member wirDesign. Birgida Kempf and Silke Parnack from the wirDesign Executive Board will show how their agency works.
Brigida Kempf and Silke Parnack, board members at wirDesign, show how their brand agency works successfully. The agency places responsibility at the heart of its actions, acts in accordance with ESG criteria, and is currently working on its common good balance sheet. It’s not just about being “good” or “sustainable” but constantly improving and taking responsibility—for the employees, the company, and the world—while achieving economic success.
Most of our members have this aspiration, so we are already looking forward to this impetus from the wirDesign cosmos and the subsequent collegial exchange over snacks and drinks.
We kindly ask for a reservation. The event will be in German.
